This week’s featured fun is Dark Water Hymnal’s cd release show this Saturday at End of an Ear. The band will be celebrating the release of their first full length album, As Above, So Below. The album is out now on iTunes and available through their website, and I’m sure they’ll have copies at the show!
They’re good and the live show is definitely worth seeing. You should check them out by listening to this song, Furrows.
Whatever this is, it looks fun. The River Flows East appears to be an art and design-themed party of sorts, featuring music by What Made Milwaukee Famous and the Story Of, plus a few DJs. There will also be various kinds of art (installations, photo booths, graffiti) and of course, drinks. It’s $15, but it looks like if you RSVP at do512.com, you get to be a VIP, which includes free drinks! Can this be right?
The event starts at 9:00 pm at 2943 E. 12th St. (enter in back).
The Invisible Inks will be playing their first show this Thursday night at the Mohawk. I don’t have a picture or an mp3 (because they’re invisible!), so we’ll just have to trust that they’re gonna be good.
Looking for some fun? Perhaps you should go see the Physics of Meaning at Hole in the Wall this Thursday. If you like indie folk rock played by really good musicians with a lot of instruments, this is the band for you. According to the band, they sound like “birds and rivers and cars and technology and eyes and hearts, but in song form”.
The frontman, Daniel Hart, is a bad ass violin (among other things) player and has toured with the likes of St. Vincent, the Polyphonic Spree, and John Vanderslice. I am lucky to call him “friend”.
Which is why you should attend the Office Space 10th Anniversary Reunion at the Paramount Theatre on Sunday, February 8th. This show is of course sold out, but there’s always Craigslist! Apparently, the following special guests will be in attendance:
Mike Judge (Mastermind, Stan- Chotchkie’s Manager)
Stephen Root (Milton)
Gary Cole (Bill Lumbergh)
John C. McGinley (Bob Slydell)
Diedrich Bader (Lawrence)
David Herman (Michael Bolten)
Ajay Naidu (Samir Nagheenanajar)
Paul Willson (Bob Porter)
Todd Duffey (Brian, Chotchskie’s waiter with the most Flair!)
Ben Kweller is playing an in-store at Waterloo Records this week. I definitely like his first album, but haven’t heard much since then (that was 6 years ago or something). He was also in the Dallas band Radish, if you’ve ever heard them. Remember, they had that hit in the 90’s - “Little Pink Stars”?
This is a little weird, since he’s playing an in-store, but doesn’t seem to have a show in town around the same time. If you can get down to Waterloo at 5 on a weekday, check it out. After all, it’s free! Also, I think they have free beer. Beer!
