Dallas’ Zapruder Sequence will be playing this Saturday at Hole in the Wall. They don’t go on until midnight, so take a nap before you come. Even though the band formed several years ago and has played dozens of live shows, they don’t get to Austin very often.
So, if you like bands like the Old 97’s, the Lemonheads, Slobberbone, and Soul Asylum, and you like to rock, you should come. Here’s a song, Straight Lines, for your listening pleasure.
p.s. You might want to bring some extra cash to buy a copy of their latest release, Pretty Girl Charm Lies. But only if you like great albums.

One of my new favorites, The Gaslight Anthem, will be playing Antone’s this Wednesday with Heartless Bastards and A Death in the Family. If you like Bruce Springsteen and rocking and awesomeness, you will like this band. Their new album, The 59 Sound, has been playing in my car for a week straight. Check them out here.
I know, I know. You’re going to Cake or Mates of State and Black Kids the night before and will be soooooooo tired. Just suck it up and drink some coffee. You don’t want to miss this show!

Be still, my beating heart! Rhett Miller? That’s right, Rhett Miller will be
playing a free show at Shady Grove on Thursday, April 23rd as part of KGSR’s free series, Unplugged at the Grove. I’ve loved Rhett Miller since the heyday of the Old 97’s (Dallas in the 90s) and when I was 17, I was pretty sure he and I were going to get married. After all, he is a serial lady killer. I’m over that now, but will still be going to the show.
If you’re lucky, I’ll let you listen to my rare release of Rhett’s first solo album from 1989, Mythologies. Here’s a sampling of some of his more recent solo work, Four Eyed Girl.

Celebrate your local record store on annual Record Store Day, this Saturday! As if going to the record store wasn’t fun enough already, a lot of record stores will have events, free stuff, etc. I know a lot of people only deal in digital music these days, but not me. There’s just something about going to the store, listening to new things, and buying a new record or cd to actually hold in your hand! It’s real. It doesn’t just exist on your iPod.
Most independent record stores in Austin are participating and have stuff going on. Check this website for participating stores.

I generally hate musical theater. However, I think this metal opera, Arthuriosis, based on the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, might be sweet. What’s better than metal swords, tights, metal, and swords in tights? The show features a score by a live band, Council of the Beast, and promises to “rock you back to the Dark Ages”. Opens this weekend and plays through next weekend at the Blue Theatre. More info here.

Jerry Seinfeld will be performing not one, but two shows at Bass Concert Hall
Friday, April 3, 2009. One show at 7:00 pm and the next at 9:30 pm. If you have tickets to this, you’re lucky. I suppose you can always hope to get one on Craigslist or the street for a pretty penny.
