Austin City Limits Music Festival 2009 - October 2-4, Zilker Park

780px-acl-logoIt’s that time again!  Time for the sweaty, crowded dust storm in Zilker Park, also known as Austin City Limits Fest.  Two of the favorites, the Beastie Boys and Sonic Youth, had to cancel for health related reasons, which is very disappointing.

However, if I were going to this thing, I’d check out the following: Passion Pit, Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, John Vanderslice, the Dirty Projectors, the Decemberists, School of Seven Bells, the Airborne Toxic Event, Mos Def, Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, Girl Talk, the B-52’s, Blitzen Trapper, Ghostland Observatory, and Bon Iver.  I would make Passion Pit, Kings of Leon, Ghostland Obervatory, and Phoenix top priorities.

I would not waste my time on the Scabs (really?  everyone in Austin hasn’t already seen them 1,000 times?) or the Dead Weather (another Jack White side project?  Cool!).

That is all.  There are some great bands playing, so have fun!

FRIGHTENED RABBIT!!!, Thursday, Sept. 24th, Mohawk

Frightened Rabbit will be playing this Thursday with the Twilight Sad at the frightenedrabbitMohawk.  I AM SO EXCITED!  I love Frightened Rabbit.  All you need to know is their albums are excellent, their live show is probably even better, and they live in Scotland, so now’s your big chance to see them.  Their music is interesting, catchy, fun and folk pop-esque, with a little something extra.

If you do one fun thing this month, the Frightened Rabbit show should be it.   And if you buy one album this month, their latest, The Midnight Organ Fight, is the one for you. Here’s a little sample: The Twist.

north-loop-11th-annual-block-party-flier-copy2Try not to let your head explode from the amount of fun happening on Saturday (see list to the right).  While I’m sure they could all show you a good time, I recommend the North Loop IBIZ Block Party from 12-7 pm or the Bloodshot Records 15th Anniversary Beer-B-Q at Yard Dog Gallery from 12- 6 pm.

If you like live music, cool stores, and rocking, go to the block party.  If you’re more into alternative country, beer, and bbq, go to the Bloodshot party.  Both are free!  Done and done.
